Understanding the visa bulletin
How to Read the Visa Bulletin
The Visa Bulletin is published monthly by the U.S. Department of State. It shows when immigrant visas (Green Cards) are available based on your priority date, visa category, and country of charge ability.
1. Know Your Priority Date
This is the date your EB-3 (I-140) was filed. It determines your place in line.
2. Find Your Visa Category
All of our nurses fall under EB-3 (Employment-Based Third Preference) Category
3. Find Your Country
Refer to your country of birth, which may differ from your residence or passport country.
4. Focus on the Final Action Date
This is the most important chart. If your date is earlier than the Final Action Date, your visa is considered “current.”
If your priority date is earlier than the Final Action Date, your case is considered “current” which means your case is ready to be scheduled for your immigrant visa interview.

Understanding Retrogression

It’s Temporary
Dates move forward again when more visas become available.
Your Priority Date is Safe
Your place in line is protected. You don’t lose your spot.
