Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Transportation Engineer to support roadway design projects across various stages of the project lifecycle. This individual will work within CAD platforms, with a preference for Bentley MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (Civil 3D experience is also acceptable with a willingness to learn ORD). The engineer will take ownership of assigned projects, develop design models and full plan sets, and collaborate closely with project managers and team members to align on scope, schedule, and deliverables. Responsibilities evolve based on experience level, ranging from mentorship and project leadership for more senior engineers to hands-on learning and development for those earlier in their careers.
Project work includes a diverse mix of VDOT and local municipality initiatives, such as roadway intersection improvements, corridor and streetscape enhancements, multi-use trail design (including large-scale efforts like a 15-mile trail project), pedestrian-focused design, alternative intersection configurations (e.g., RCUTs), and ITS structure replacements. Within a collaborative team of approximately 25 professionals, the individual will typically support one to two projects at a time, participate in weekly coordination meetings, and operate with a level of autonomy that scales with experience. This opportunity is open to candidates with approximately 1–20 years of experience, with expectations tailored accordingly, including increased ownership, complexity, and mentorship responsibilities at more experienced levels.
Success in this role requires strong technical proficiency in roadway modeling, an understanding of DOT standards and highway design principles, and experience with cost estimating. Familiarity with drainage, grading, traffic design, and best management practices (BMPs) is a plus. We are seeking a self-starter who is collaborative, growth-oriented, and interested in developing long-term with the company as their expertise and project responsibilities expand.

We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. We are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer that believes everyone matters. Qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment regardless of their race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital status, national origin, ancestry, genetic factors, age, disability, protected veteran status, military or uniformed service member status, or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances. If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or recruiting process, please send a request to HR@insightglobal.com.To learn more about how we collect, keep, and process your private information, please review Insight Global's Workforce Privacy Policy: https://insightglobal.com/workforce-privacy-policy/.

Required Skills & Experience

• Modeling experience in CAD, preferably with MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (ORD) (Civil 3D experience is acceptable with a willingness to learn ORD)
• General understanding of roadway design standards, specifications, and cost estimating, including familiarity with AASHTO (Green Book), DOT standards, and MUTCD
• Self-starter who can work independently and take ownership of tasks/projects

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Interest in or experience mentoring junior staff
• Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects simultaneously (comfortable juggling 3+ tasks at a time)
• Strong communication skills with the ability to become client-facing over time
• Demonstrated initiative through involvement in professional or industry organizations (networking, leadership, etc.)

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching.
