Location: Richmond, VA & Ashland, VA
Pay: $19 to $21/hour + overtime
Schedule: 12‑hour shifts | 4 days on / 3 days off
Type: 6‑month Contract‑to‑Perm

Role Overview
Afton Chemical is seeking Maintenance Technicians to support mechanical and engine testing within their R&D labs. This role focuses on running controlled engine tests to validate the performance of petroleum additives.
Responsibilities
• Set up and initiate engine and mechanical test cycles
• Monitor ongoing tests and record performance data
• Collect samples and document readings
• Troubleshoot test interruptions and perform basic maintenance
• Reset and prepare test machinery after each cycle
• Assist with engine teardown and cleaning using parts washers
• Participate in daily pre‑shift safety and planning meetings
Time Breakdown
• 60% monitoring tests and collecting data
• 20% starting and configuring tests
• 20% teardown, cleaning, and prep for next test
Training & Schedule
• First 8–12 weeks: rotate both shifts and both locations (Richmond & Ashland)
• After training: assigned to a fixed shift
• Shifts:
○ 11:00am–11:00pm or 11:00pm–11:00am
○ Sun–Wed or Wed–Sat

Required Skills & Experience

Required Qualifications
• Automotive or engine‑related mechanical experience
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Ability to pass a 7‑year background check
• Ability to pass a 5‑panel drug screen (including THC) - on a regular basis.
