Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Data Engineer to join one of our clients in the education management industry. This role will be onsite in McLean VA four (4) days per week and will focus heavily on SQL development and reporting through Power BI.
In this role, the data engineer serves both our client’s business partners as well as the Information Technology (IT) organization delivering high quality products with timely business impact. You will be responsible for helping our client’s business partners engage successfully with their products and services, acting as a bridge between the IT organization and the various business teams. The primary responsibilities are to construct optimized SQL queries and perform data transformations to support various reporting needs. You will ensure data accuracy, consistency, and proper alignment with established business rules and definitions, as well as thoroughly document calculations, business logic, data definitions, constraints, and dependencies associated with every report. Troubleshooting reporting issues, validating data anomalies, and communicating findings in a clear manner to stakeholders are key responsibilities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines to automate the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from diverse sources.
- Write efficient Python scripts to clean, validate, and preprocess large datasets, ensuring high standards of data quality and reliability.
- Develop, test, and deploy comprehensive reports and dashboards utilizing established tools such as PowerSchool’s Enterprise Reports, Power BI, and SQL-based reporting platforms.
- Construct optimized SQL queries and perform data transformations to support various reporting needs.

Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer
- Experience writing SQL queries with relational databases (Ideally, Oracle and PostgreSQL )
- Experience working with AWS Services (S3, IAM, RDS, SQS, Lambda)
- Experience with Power BI
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- PowerSchool Enterprise Reports
- Experience with cloud-based data warehouses – ideally Amazon Redshift
- Experience building data pipelines
- Python scripting experience
