Job Description
A client of Insight Global is seeking a hands-on Automation & Controls Engineer to monitor, maintain, and enhance the control systems of our automated equipment. This role involves designing, programming, and troubleshooting HMIs, PLCs, and sensor systems to optimize production and minimize downtime. A solid understanding of how pressure, flow, level, and temperature affect machinery is essential, as is an aptitude for mechanical and electrical troubleshooting. This position requires both analytical and physical work, and will report directly to the Automation Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design, program, modify, and troubleshoot HMIs and PLC control systems to support reliable, user‑friendly operation of automated equipment.
• Install, integrate, and commission new production equipment, including sensors, robotics, and automated systems, collaborating closely with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams.
• Monitor system performance and quickly diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control issues to minimize downtime; perform root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective solutions.
• Select, install, calibrate, and maintain sensors (pressure, flow, level, temperature, proximity, etc.) to ensure accurate real‑time monitoring and historical data trending.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on motors, conveyor systems, transmission assemblies, and automated machinery; fabricate or modify parts as needed for repairs or upgrades.
• Participate in the design, fabrication, testing, and commissioning of new equipment, including FAT/SAT, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
• Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, maintenance activities, system configurations, and technical findings; prepare clear technical reports, sketches, and data analyses.
• Communicate effectively with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders regarding system status, project timelines, risks, and technical recommendations.
• Adhere to OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, and company safety policies; proactively identify and address safety hazards and promote a strong safety culture.
• Meet physical requirements of the role, including lifting up to 25 lbs and standing, walking, and performing hands‑on work for extended periods.

Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Control Systems, or related technical field preferred.
• 5+ years of experience as an industrial maintenance technician or similar role; a combination of relevant experience and formal training (robotics, lasers, metal fabrication equipment) will be considered.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and equipment manuals.
• Strong background in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) and knowledge of relay logic.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot PLC ladder logic, including making code modifications and documenting changes.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD (or similar CAD software) for creating and updating electrical or mechanical drawings.
• Basic understanding of robotic systems and automation integration preferred.
• Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.) is a plus.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Basic computer literacy for report writing and data analysis.
• Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and regulations.
• Valid driver’s license and authorization to work in the United States.
