Job Description
We are seeking a motivated Petroleum Engineer with experience in well and inventory scheduling, reserves management, and economic evaluation to join our Business Applications team. This role bridges Petroleum Engineering and Information Technology by supporting and enhancing in-house applications used for reserves, planning, economics, and production management.
This position would be closely tied to the development of our in-house "long-term planning" software application. The ideal candidate would be SME level in working with these types of applications, and can lead the strategic direction for requirement gathering.
The ideal candidate is technically proficient, enjoys solving business problems, and is interested in working closely with end users and software developers to deliver practical solutions that improve business processes. This position offers opportunities to travel, collaborate with cross-functional teams, gather business requirements, and support the successful rollout of new application features and enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
• Support business users of in-house petroleum engineering applications used for reserves, planning, scheduling, and economics.
• Work with engineering teams to understand workflows related to well scheduling, inventory management, reserves reporting, and development planning.
• Gather, document, analyze, and prioritize business requirements for new functionality and system enhancements.
• Translate business requirements into functional specifications for software development teams.
• Participate in application design reviews, testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and production deployments.
• Assist with implementation, configuration, and continuous improvement of engineering applications.
• Develop and maintain documentation, user guides, training materials, and business process documentation.
• Support data validation and ensure consistency between engineering applications and business systems.
• Use SQL and Python to query, analyze, validate, and automate engineering and business data where appropriate.
• Travel to company offices and operating locations as needed to work directly with business users and project teams.
Based on knowledge and years of experience, this position offers an hourly pay rate of $55-70/hr.

Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 2–5 years of petroleum engineering experience.
• Experience with well planning, inventory scheduling, development planning, or production forecasting.
• Experience using petroleum engineering software for reserves, economics, planning, or scheduling.
• Experience with reserves and economics software such as Actenum DSO, Palantir Foundry, ARIES, PHDWin, Harmony, Val Nav, ComboCurve, or similar platforms.
• Basic SQL skills for querying and validating data.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Experience working as a Business Analyst or in a technology-enabled engineering role.
• Knowledge of Agile or Scrum software development methodologies.
• Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence and data visualization tools.
• Understanding of software testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and release management.
• Basic Python programming skills for data analysis, automation, and reporting.
