Job Description

The Safety Incident Investigation Lead provides subject matter expertise with a technical focus on event learning, incident management, investigations, and near-miss processes. Facilitates learning teams and supports a Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) approach to strengthen operational learning and Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention. Performs in-depth event analysis, identifies trends and control gaps, develops sustainable corrective actions, and partners with leaders and stakeholders to implement improvements. There are about 15-20 events/year that this individual will be responsible for.

Main Responsibilities:
- Facilitates Learning Teams with a focus on human and organizational performance principles to support learning. Leads serious injury (SIF) investigations that may include a formal causal analysis. Conducts event report-outs with executive leadership.
- Works in close collaboration with corporate, operations and safety leadership to develop and implement sustainable corrective actions and process improvements to prevent incidents.
- Facilitates regular meetings to verify timely completion of corrective actions from event learnings and maintains corrective action log.
- Tracks and analyzes high-energy events to identifying trends, direct or critical controls, and improvement opportunities.
- Hosts weekly departmental meetings to review and classify incidents according to the Safety Classification and Learning (SCL) model. Maintains data accuracy in the incident management database.
- Manages projects associated with program implementation and maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Serves as a serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention advocate presenting or training as requested; covering topics including Human and Organizational Performance fundamentals (HOP), energy wheel, high-energy hazard identification, critical controls, and operational learning.
- Prepares and communicates findings from high value learning events across the business.
- Develops safety related communications for inclusion into daily communications, meetings and bulletins.
- Supports the high-energy controls assessment process.
- Collaborates and builds partnerships with stakeholders, managers, supervisors, and crew members to promote integration and adoption of SIF prevention, HOP and event learning.
- Trains and supports additional Learning Team Facilitators.

Required Skills & Experience

5-7 years of experience within safety, human and organizational performance, incident investigation/management or continuous improvement

Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Psychology, Engineering, Business, or related technical field

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience facilitating Learning Teams using Human and Organizational Performance (HOP)

Safety certifications

Training experience: TapRoot, Fishbone, or other Root Cause Analysis type training
