Job Description
One of Insight Global's industrial services partners is looking for a Civil/Structural Designer to join their team in Houston, TX. This person will take direction from Lead Civil/Structural Designers in supporting mid-size and large projects ($10 million - $16 million) . They will be supporting five to ten projects at any given time, both greenfield and brownfield. The current work right now is around data centers and petrochemical plants. This person must be able to work well in a team environment, as they will be coordinating with several groups in and outside of the Department. This candidate must be motivated to step into a lead designer role over the course of their time at Brown & Root. They will be joining a small team, but it will be growing.
Responsibilities:
• The designer will be responsible for completing difficult and complex designs and drawings for fabrication and construction.
• They must make independent decisions on procedures used.
• The designer must be familiar with terminology and practices of the industry and must use them accurately in the preparation of designs and drawings.
• Many decisions will be made by the designer which will affect the successful completion of their work and the work of others they are directing.
• The designer will be held accountable for those decisions and how they affect the overall project effort.
• Establish design objectives for specific projects and develops designs for various difficult and complex project features within a specific discipline or functional area.
• Performs elements of design studies for projects.
• Review vendor drawings, standard details, codes and standards, field data and information provided by project personnel for developing drawings which show details of equipment, layouts and features that will be used for fabrication of construction.
• Revises drawings as needed to correct details and reflect actual versus planned project feature locations and dimensions.
• Coordinate and plan work of drafters and designers to complete a project assignment.
• Provide technical guidance to other drafters and designers within a specific discipline or functional area.
• Review drawings prepared by drafters and other designers for accuracy, completeness, and compatibility of designs between disciplines.
• Performs calculations, including material quantity take-offs, for design, layout and detailing of project features.
• Prepare man hour and bid estimates for projects and proposals.

Required Skills & Experience
5-10 years of experience as a Civil/Structural Designer
Experience working in civil/structural design for EPC projects in the oil and gas, petrochemical, or power industries (onshore)
3D modeling experience using Advanced Steel
Proficient in Autodesk Advance Steel (software)
AutoCAD – 2D & 3D
Autodesk Recap (laser scan software)
Navisworks and Microsoft Office
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
TWIC card
