Job Description

The Department Manager – Security is responsible for leading and growing IES Communications’ physical security business within a branch or region. This role oversees strategy, operations, project execution, financial performance, and team development for security systems including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and integrated low‑voltage solutions. This leader partners closely with project management, sales, engineering, and field operations to ensure scalable growth, profitable execution, and high‑quality delivery for enterprise, mission‑critical, and commercial clients.

Key Responsibilities
Business & Department Leadership
• Own overall P&L responsibility for the Security department, including revenue growth, margins, forecasting, and backlog
• Develop and execute department growth strategy aligned to branch and corporate goals
• Partner with sales to support business development, estimates, RFP responses, and client presentations
• Identify and pursue new opportunities in data centers, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, commercial real estate, and critical infrastructure

Operational Oversight
• Oversee execution of security projects from pre‑construction through closeout
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to IES quality standards
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and operations leaders to resource projects effectively
• Ensure compliance with codes, safety standards, and security industry best practices

Technical & Solutions Leadership
• Provide subject‑matter leadership across security systems including:
○ Access Control (Lenel, Genetec, CCURE, HID, etc.)
○ Video Surveillance (Axis, Avigilon, Hanwha, etc.)
○ Intrusion Detection & Intercom
○ System integrations with IT, BAS, and life safety
• Support system design review, value engineering, and technology standardization
Team & Talent Management
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of project managers, engineers, supervisors, and technicians
• Support recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and training
• Build a scalable org structure to support growth while maintaining quality and consistency
• Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Financial & Risk Management
• Review job cost reports, forecasts, change orders, and billing
• Proactively mitigate project risk and address margin erosion
• Ensure accurate contract review, scope definition, and change management

Client & Partner Engagement
• Serve as an executive‑level point of contact for key security clients
• Build long‑term relationships with customers, vendors, and manufacturer partners
• Support client satisfaction, repeat business, and strategic account expansion

Required Skills & Experience

• 7–10+ years experience in physical security or low‑voltage systems
• 3–5+ years in a leadership or management role (PM Lead, Operations Manager, or Department Manager)
• Strong understanding of commercial and enterprise security systems
• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and teams
• Financial acumen with experience owning or influencing department or project P&Ls
• Ability to interface with executives, clients, and technical teams

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience within a large integrator or contractor (e.g., IES‑type environment)
• Exposure to data center or mission‑critical security environments
• Manufacturer certifications (Lenel, Genetec, Axis, etc.)
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience
• Preferred certs: Genetec, PSP, CPP, CSPM, PMP.
