Job Description

Location: Gigafactory, Austin, TX
Company: Tesla
Tesla is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Infrastructure Design Team at the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. The ideal candidate will specialize in low and medium voltage industrial and manufacturing power systems design and demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and pride in their work. This role requires excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with other engineering disciplines, as well as maintenance and operations teams. Strong communication skills and a commitment to mentoring younger engineers are essential.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with construction, facilities, operations, and maintenance teams throughout the electrical design process, with a focus on reliability, maintainability, and operability.
• Develop comprehensive construction design deliverables, including:
o Electrical one-line and three-line diagrams
o 5kV and 480V motor starter/VFD schematics and wiring diagrams
o Electrical busway design
o Cable schedules and cable tray routing
o Site and equipment grounding
o Lightning protection systems
o Lighting design
o Duct bank layouts
• Interpret and implement NFPA-70 (NEC) standards for low and medium-voltage power system design and installation, covering:
o Overcurrent protection
o Motor protection
o Cable tray and conduit sizing
o Cable sizing, derating, and voltage drop calculations
o Fire water pump systems
o Classified areas
o Grounding and bonding
• Manage EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) firms through all phases of design development, execution, and handover.
• Address RFIs (Requests for Information) and resolve design changes during construction.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and construction team to ensure proper design sequencing while managing multiple design scopes at once.
• Develop and maintain site standards for electrical design practices and installations, adhering to industry codes.
