Job Description
On a day-to-day basis, the Power BI Architect serves as the enterprise lead for all Power BI-related initiatives, owning the design, development, deployment, and continuous optimization of reporting and analytics solutions across the organization. They are responsible for architecting and governing the Power BI environment, including managing workspaces, deployment pipelines, tenant configurations, security, gateways, and Fabric capacity, while proactively monitoring platform performance, resolving refresh and scalability issues, and maintaining a trusted and well-governed analytics ecosystem. This role involves defining and enforcing development standards for DAX, Power Query, and data modeling, as well as implementing performance optimization strategies such as incremental refresh, composite models, and reusable semantic layers to ensure scalable, high-performing solutions. The architect regularly partners with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to translate complex data into intuitive, executive-level dashboards and operational reports, applying best practices in UX/UI design, accessibility, and data storytelling. Additionally, they mentor analysts and developers, lead enablement efforts such as trainings and documentation, and promote a Center of Excellence model to drive adoption and self-service maturity. They also collaborate closely with IT, data engineering, and leadership teams to align analytics strategies with broader business goals, while continuously evaluating and integrating emerging capabilities within Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and Copilot to drive innovation and long-term platform scalability.
This role is a 6-month contract with potential to be converted to a full time employee. The hourly rate for this role is $70-75/hr.

Required Skills & Experience
Deep, hands-on expertise across the full Microsoft Power BI stack (Power BI Desktop, Service, Embedded, Report Server, and Mobile)
Strong experience with Power BI administration, including governance, security, gateways, tenant settings, and Premium/Fabric capacity management
Advanced SQL skills for data extraction, transformation, validation, and performance optimization
Proven experience designing and implementing scalable semantic models and enterprise reporting solutions
Expertise in defining and enforcing development standards using DAX and Power Query
Experience with performance optimization techniques (incremental refresh, composite models, aggregation tables, thin-report architecture)
Strong background in BI platform migrations at enterprise scale
Hands-on experience with Power BI ALM, including Git integration, XMLA endpoints, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation
Demonstrated ability to design executive dashboards leveraging UX/UI, accessibility, and data storytelling best practices
Strong stakeholder communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into actionable business insights
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Exposure to conversational analytics, AI-driven reporting, or emerging BI capabilities
Experience building or contributing to a Power BI Center of Excellence (CoE)
Strong background mentoring and enabling teams to adopt self-service analytics
Healthcare industry experience, particularly in regulated or audit-heavy environments
Microsoft certifications such as PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst) or DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer)
Master’s degree in a related field (Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, etc.)
