Insight Global is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Greenville, SC. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be part of the Design Liaison Engineering team that partners with Global Supply Chain and cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement, support hardware non-conformance disposition, and ensure high-quality standards. This role bridges between design and manufacturing by supporting producibility, process improvements, qualification activities, and assembly operations while enhancing product performance, cost, and overall value.
This engineer will support either Rotor Assembly and Unit Assembly organizations, serving as a key technical resource for manufacturing, assembly, and test-related challenges. Rotor Assembly focuses on the build, inspection, balancing, and validation of turbine rotors, requiring engineers to troubleshoot dimensional issues, vibration concerns, hardware fit-up problems, and assembly anomalies. Unit Assembly is where the complete turbine is integrated, bringing together rotors, casings, stationary structures, and hot gas path components while supporting final assembly, testing, and issue resolution across multiple hardware teams.
Overview of Responsibilities
Partner with Global Supply Chain to resolve hardware non-conformances and improve quality
Support design for manufacturability, lean flow, and concurrent engineering efforts
Assist with qualification of new processes, process changes, and new equipment
Drive defect reduction and continuous improvement through Lean initiatives and Kaizen events
Support manufacturing readiness, specifications, and key production challenges
Contribute to development and qualification of special manufacturing processes
Apply engineering and manufacturing knowledge to improve part performance, reduce cost, and add value
Investigate assembly, test, and production issues, including hardware fit-up concerns, clearances, vibration-related findings, and dimensional discrepancies
Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and testing teams to identify root causes and drive resolution of complex turbine assembly challenges
Foster strong teamwork, sense of urgency, and a quality-driven culture

Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (from an accredited university)
2+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing, production, or supply chain environments
Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and/or supporting production issues
Ability to troubleshoot and disposition hardware non-conformances
Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Gas turbine experience, especially hot section components
Manufacturing or advanced manufacturing process experience
Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, or continuous improvement experience
Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC)
Experience with NX, GD&T, and/or ANSYS
Familiarity with special processes (castings, coatings, drilling, etc.)
Experience supporting process qualifications or new equipment validation
Strong presentation and stakeholder management skills
Proven ability to drive process improvements and challenge the status quo
