Job Description

Overview:
As an Automation Controls Engineer, you will become an active member of a team applying advanced manufacturing technologies within the overall goal of modernizing a large pharmaceutical manufacturing client’s workflow and date streams. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the success of complex automated assembly lines, packaging systems and testing systems. You will exercise hands-on expertise in testing, troubleshooting and improving the installation, start-up, validation, and operation of these manufacturing systems. You will be heavily involved in the software validations necessary to ensure compliance with quality requirements and overall workload.

Day to Day:

• Programming and Troubleshooting Allen Bradley PLC’s, Fanuc robots, Machine Vision, and Panel View HMI’s
• Lead/support capital automation projects from concept and URS through FAT/SAT, commissioning, and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ)
• Lead/support root cause analysis (RCA), FMEA, and risk assessments to resolve complex machine and process failures
• Serve as SME for advanced PLC, motion control, robotics, and industrial networking systems
• Direct/recommend safety system design and application in alignment with IEC, ISO, UL, CE, and NFPA standards
• Follow standardized electrical design, panel layouts, PLC architecture, and structured code methodologies
• Develop detailed requirements and Validation Protocols
• Collaborate with engineers to achieve expected quality levels in products.
• Ensure compliance of quality processes and standards
• Identify issues and risks and develop mitigation plans with the cross functional team to resolve project setbacks and obstacles.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and technicians; provide technical leadership through influence

Required Skills & Experience

- Bachelor’s Degree in related field - OR - 8+ years of PLC experience
o Alan Bradley PLC & HMI Programming & Troubleshooting (hardwired or wireless)
o Experience within RS Logic 5000
- Prior Instrumentation and Compliance experience
o Functional machine safety, GAMP, Lock out Tag Out, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to perform advanced hands-on diagnostics and system troubleshooting

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Master’s Degree / Ph.D
- Experience with automation implementation within a Pharma Environment
- Fanuc Robotics Programming, IoT experience, Ladder Logic
- Industrial Networking experience with EtherNet/IP, Rockwell, RSLinx, etc.
