Job Description

This role is a hands-on technical position responsible for maintaining and enhancing existing MS Access database applications while actively driving the migration of legacy processes to modern Microsoft platforms.

The ideal candidate will be both a strong Access developer and a builder in modern tools (Power Platform, Power BI, SQL), capable of translating existing workflows—including reporting and data update processes—into scalable, automated solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

Access Application Ownership (Day-to-Day)

Serve as the primary developer and support resource for existing MS Access databases (queries, forms, macros, VBA, reports)

Troubleshoot, enhance, and stabilize critical legacy applications used across multiple departments

Maintain accuracy, reliability, and timely delivery of business-critical reporting and workflows

Support users and stakeholders with issues, enhancements, and ad hoc requests

Shape

Hands-On Migration & Modernization (Core Focus)

Actively design and build modern replacements for legacy Access applications

Convert existing solutions into appropriate platforms, including:

Power BI for reporting and dashboards (replacing view-only reports)

Power Automate / Power Apps for workflow automation and user interfaces

SQL-based solutions for data storage and processing

Rebuild processes that currently rely on:

Access queries (including update queries)

Manual data manipulation steps

Work directly with business stakeholders to understand current-state functionality and deliver improved, modern solutions

Prioritize and execute a migration roadmap, balancing ongoing support with transformation work

Data Processing & Reporting

Process and integrate customer-provided data into structured environments

Maintain and enhance reporting processes supporting:

Monthly and quarterly reporting requirements

Billing control and revenue-driving outputs

Risk, insurance, and tax-related reporting

Build and deliver new reporting solutions in modern tools (Power BI preferred)

Deliver ad hoc analysis using SQL, Excel, and Power Platform tools

Automation & Process Improvement

Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and repeatability

Replace manual or semi-manual workflows with automated, auditable processes

Ensure processes are documented and compliant with audit requirements

Shape

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

Partner closely with IT and business teams to ensure alignment with long-term data architecture

Serve as a go-to technical expert for data processes, automation, and reporting

Share best practices and support team capability growth where appropriate

Required Skills & Experience

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, or related field
- 4+ years of data, database development, or analytics experience
- Demonstrated experience owning end-to-end solutions (build + support)

Core Technical Skills
-Advanced MS Access development (VBA, queries, forms, reports, macros)
-Strong SQL and relational database experience
-Experience with SQL Server tools (e.g., SSMS, SSRS) or equivalent
-Advanced Excel skills (Power Pivot, complex formulas, data modeling)

Modernization Experience (Critical)
- Proven, hands-on experience migrating or rebuilding legacy systems (especially Access) into modern tools, such as:
- Power BI (reporting and dashboards)
- Power Automate (workflow automation)
- Power Apps (application interfaces)
- SQL or cloud-based data platforms
- Ability to translate: Legacy reports → modern dashboards, Update queries and batch processes → automated workflows or structured pipelines

Analytical & Execution Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deliverables
- Experience documenting processes and building repeatable, governed solutions

Communication
- Strong ability to work directly with business users to gather requirements and deliver solutions
- Clear and concise communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps)
- Experience modernizing legacy business processes in a corporate environment
- Familiarity with SharePoint, OneDrive, and enterprise data environments -
