Job Description

An employer in the Cincinnati, OH is seeking a Technical Writer to support a highly specialized manufacturing and welding lab environment. This individual will be responsible for translating hands-on engineering processes into clear, standardized documentation to improve consistency, training, and operational efficiency. This role will partner closely with engineers, welders, and lab personnel to capture undocumented processes and build structured materials that support both day-to-day operations and new technology adoption. Additional responsibilities include:
- Develop and standardize process documentation and work instructions across welding and lab operations
- Create clear, user-friendly materials, including Standard Work Instructions (SWIs), Equipment user manuals, Quick start guides and training documentation, etc
- Translate complex technical processes into simple, step-by-step instructions for shop floor use
- Document workflows related to:
o Welding processes (e.g., TIG welding support environment)
o Repair procedures for complex components (e.g., castings, legacy hardware)
o Equipment setup and usage
- Support documentation tied to welder certification and inspection processes
- Create documentation to support new and emerging technologies, including:
o Semi-automated/automated welding systems
o Robotics and advanced manufacturing tools
- Supporting project management activities such as:
o Assist with organizing and structuring documentation across multiple concurrent initiatives (20–30+ projects)
o Support development of project plans (e.g., Smartsheet) by helping define documentation scope, timelines, and deliverables
o Partner with engineering stakeholders to prioritize and track documentation needs

Required Skills & Experience

- 3–7+ years of experience in technical writing within manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environments
- Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise instructions for operators and technicians
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work directly with hands-on technical teams
- Experience with documentation tools (e.g., Word, SharePoint, Smartsheet, or similar)

- Experience supporting R&D or lab-based environments
