Job Description
The Product Engineer (Electrical Engineer – Power Switching & Distribution) is the end-to-end design owner for assigned AC power products within Power Switching & Distribution portfolio (RPP, PDU, STS, transformers). This role is accountable not only for technical correctness, but for issue closure, documentation completeness, and lifecycle health of released products.
The Product Engineer operates at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, field service, sales, and customers, translating field reality into durable design improvements. Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, disciplined follow-through, and comfort engaging directly with customers and factories when problems arise.
Responsibilities:
1. Design Ownership & Technical Accountability
Serve as design owner and subject matter expert for assigned Power Switching & Distribution products across their full lifecycle (release, sustainment, cost-out, and sunset).
Support technical decisions, trade-offs, and change rationale; ensure they are documented, reviewed, and traceable.
Invent, prototype, test, and implement design changes to:
Prevent recurrence of field or factory issues
Address obsolescence and reliability risks
Reduce cost or improve manufacturability
Add measurable customer value
2. Issue Resolution & Closure Discipline
Lead structured troubleshooting of emergent issues in customer sites and factories, including root cause analysis and corrective action definition.
Drive issues to clear closure, ensuring fixes are validated, documented, released, and communicated.
Coordinate across R&D, manufacturing engineering, quality, and suppliers to eliminate repeat failures.
Travel to customer and Vertiv factory sites as needed to support investigations, witness testing, or technical escalations (typically every 3–6 months).
3. Customer & Commercial Engagement
Interact directly with customers to support:
Technical questions during quoting and sales
Field issue resolution
Customer witness testing
Represent engineering with credibility and clarity, especially when explaining technical limitations, risks, or corrective actions.
4. Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
Create, revise, and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including:
User manuals
Technical specifications
Submittal drawings
Application notes and internal design records
Ensure documentation reflects as-built and as-supported reality, not just original design intent.
Contribute to internal knowledge bases to reduce reliance on tribal knowledge.
5. Hands-On Engineering Support
Safely operate products and test equipment up to 600 VAC and 1 MW in support of testing and investigations.
Design, build, or modify simple test setups and fixtures as required to support failure analysis or validation testing.
SALARY: 120,000
