Job Description
A financial company in the Cincinnati, OH area is seeking Senior Fullstack Java Engineers to help support supporting major migration and modernization efforts in response to a recent acquisition. This opportunity will be a contract role to 9/30 and can sit remotely (EST).
Other responsibilities will include:
• Work within a large, legacy codebase to maintain, refactor, and modernize existing components.
• Develop and enhance Java/Spring Boot services that interact with DB2 and Oracle databases.
• Support integration efforts tied to the acquisition, including processing inbound files through Python applications and ensuring accurate data movement into downstream Java services.
• Build, update, and validate SOAP/XML contracts, ensuring compatibility and integrity between legacy systems and modernized service layers.
• Design and maintain message-based integrations using MQ and/or Kafka, including schema mapping, message transformation, and flow validation between Python and Java layers.
• Implement and troubleshoot translation logic across systems to ensure complete alignment of data structures and service expectations.
• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve issues across legacy and modern components using tools like Splunk or Dynatrace.
• Collaborate in a virtual squad environment—participating in stand-ups, backlog refinement, architecture discussions, and cross-functional troubleshooting.
• Operate effectively in an environment with evolving requirements, independently identifying gaps and proposing solutions.
• Ensure code quality, maintainability, and performance across legacy services and new modernization efforts.

Required Skills & Experience
5-8+ years of experience of fullstack Java development (v 8+) within spring boot frameworks
Front end Angular and/or javascript
Kafka - eventing, asynchronous communication, etc.
API & microservice development
Strong SQL and/or Oracle and DB2
Payments/ ACH/ wire or RTP
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Clear to pay (FIS application)
• J2EE with SOAP components
• AWS deployment and containerization using Docker/Kubernetes
• Python
• Application Performance Monitoring / Logging software (Dynatrace /Splunk)
