Job Description

Role Overview
The Business Application Analyst will lead day-to-day development of business and functional requirements for technical work, primarily supporting business application project requests. This position will also help document and revise existing business processes so that they are efficient and utilize campus technologies effectively. The BA works with staff in functional areas in the university as well as work closely with architects, systems analysts, and developers to help qualify and shape work requests so that priority and effort are accurately evaluated, and appropriate resources are scheduled for timely delivery of high-quality IT solutions.
Responsibilities include:
• Support application rationalization initiatives, including categorization, scoring, and roadmap development
• Develop reports, dashboards, and documentation to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders
• Assist with governance processes related to application onboarding, changes, and retirement
• Ensure application data aligns with institutional standards, security requirements, and compliance expectations
• Provide ongoing analysis and recommendations to support continuous improvement of the application ecosystem
• Act as liaison between platform teams, functional area staff, and vendor representatives.
• Contribute to development and maintenance of strategic roadmap representing functional area business needs.
• Assist in establishing and documenting functional area processes.
• Connect functional area staff to existing processes and technical solutions for business needs.
• Contribute to development of business requirements for IT work requests.
• Perform discovery, fact-finding, and current state analysis needed to qualify work requests.
• Create cost and resource plans for work requests.
• Assist in routing of work requests to platform backlogs or escalate for project prioritization.
• Aid in the creation of work breakdowns (project tasks, stories)

Required Skills & Experience

Required Qualifications
• 3+ years of experience as an Business Application Analyst, Business Analyst, or IT Analyst
• Understanding of enterprise architecture concepts and how applications support business capabilities
• Proven ability to gather and translate business needs into clear technical and functional requirements
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and documentation skills
• Experience working cross functionally with technical and non technical stakeholders
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Preferred Qualifications
• Hands on experience working with ServiceNow, particularly application portfolio or enterprise architecture modules
• Experience identifying application overlap, redundancy, and optimization opportunities
• Experience supporting cost savings or application rationalization initiatives
• Experience supporting higher education institutions or large, distributed user populations
