Job Description

DAY‑TO‑DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design, develop, and maintain custom Workday Extend applications that enhance and extend core Workday functionality
• Partner with HR, Payroll, IT, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions
• Build and maintain integrations and data flows between Extend apps, Workday core, and downstream systems
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of Extend solutions, including design, development, testing, deployment, and post‑production support
• Support sandbox and preview tenants; perform testing and validation during Workday bi‑annual releases
• Ensure all solutions meet security, audit, and compliance standards
• Provide Tier 2/3 support for Workday and Extend‑related issues, troubleshooting complex system and data problems
• Document technical architecture, development standards, and configuration decisions
• Act as a Workday subject‑matter expert, advising on best practices and future‑state architecture

We are seeking a senior‑level Workday professional with hands‑on, real‑world Workday Extend development experience to design, build, and support custom Workday applications in a highly regulated, enterprise environment. This role goes beyond configuration and requires true development expertise within the Workday platform, including Extend, integrations, reporting, security, and business process orchestration. This individual will serve as a technical leader within the Workday ecosystem, partnering closely with HR, Payroll, IT, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and compliant solutions that extend Workday’s core functionality. The role requires deep knowledge of Workday’s architecture, data model, and development standards, with a strong emphasis on hands‑on delivery.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience designing, building, testing, and deploying Extend applications
• Experience owning Extend apps through the full SDLC, not POCs or training exercises
• Deep experience with Core HCM and strong functional understanding of downstream modules such as Payroll, Time, Absence, Benefits, Compensation, and Talent
• Strong understanding of Workday business process framework, condition rules, validations, and orchestration
• Experience working with Workday APIs, Workday data sources, calculated fields, and advanced reporting
• Strong understanding of Workday security model, including domain and BP security, and how it applies to Extend applications
• Experience working in controlled, audited environments with strict change management and compliance requirements
• Ability to document technical designs, configuration decisions, and development standards
• Hands‑on experience with EIBs, Core Connectors, inbound/outbound integrations, and troubleshooting integration failures
• Strong understanding of Workday’s data model and tenant architecture
• Ability to act as a technical lead, guiding design decisions and mentoring junior Workday resources
• Strong partnership skills with architects, business partners, and vendors

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Workday Extend Certification and/or Workday Pro certifications
• Experience leading or heavily contributing to large‑scale Workday implementations or post‑production optimization efforts
• Prior experience supporting financial services, healthcare, or other highly regulated industries
• Experience supporting Workday feature releases, assessing impact, and implementing enhancements
• Strong familiarity with Workday Community, user groups, and best‑practice forums
Exposure to release management, regression testing, and deployment planning for Extend apps
