Job Description

Day-to-Day:
• Program and configure PLCs using Siemens, GE Fanuc, and Emerson platforms
• Design control systems for low and medium-voltage switchgear applications
• Develop one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and panel layouts
• Create and modify AutoCAD drawings for retrofit and upgrade projects
• Configure and test protection relays, power meters, and automation systems
• Develop SCADA and HMI applications
• Perform FAT and SAT testing for switchgear projects
• Troubleshoot controls, PLCs, relays, and power quality equipment
• Review customer specifications and perform compliance takeoffs
• Create sequences of operation, test documentation, and as-built drawings
• Support commissioning efforts and provide technical troubleshooting assistance
• Train customers and internal teams on system operation and maintenance
• Provide occasional on-call technical support

Job Description:
Insight Global is seeking a Controls Engineer – Critical Power for a leading critical power and electrical systems organization. This engineer will be responsible for the design, development, programming, and implementation of control systems supporting low and medium-voltage switchgear applications. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with PLC programming, SCADA/HMI development, protection relays, and electrical schematic design. Daily responsibilities will include developing one-line diagrams, supporting retrofit projects, performing FAT/SAT testing, troubleshooting power distribution control systems, and collaborating with customers and internal engineering teams. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer who enjoys hands-on controls work, electrical design, commissioning support, and working on mission-critical power infrastructure projects.

Required Skills & Experience

Must-Haves:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical experience
• 3+ years of Controls Engineering experience
• Experience designing low and medium-voltage switchgear control systems (480V–38kV)
• PLC programming experience (Siemens, GE Fanuc, Emerson)
• SCADA/HMI development experience
• Ability to create and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, and panel layouts
• Experience troubleshooting PLCs, SCADA systems, relays, and electrical controls
• Familiarity with UL 891 and/or UL 1558 switchboards
• Strong communication skills
• Experience with wiring, control panels, and electrical schematics
Ability to pass background checks and comply with drug-free workplace requirements

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Plusses:
• EPLAN experience
• AutoCAD experience, particularly with retrofit projects
• Understanding of what VMS is.
• Experience with Siemens WinCC and Wonderware InTouch
• Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) experience
• Construction job site safety experience
• Industrial networking and communications protocol knowledge
• Critical Power industry experience
