Job Description
A dermatology practice is seeking a Medical Assistant to support providers in delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced clinical setting. This role is responsible for assisting with medical and cosmetic dermatology procedures, preparing patients for exams, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a procedural environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Room patients and prepare them for examinations and treatments
- Assist dermatologists and advanced practice providers during medical and cosmetic procedures (e.g., biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy)
- Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, medications, and allergies
- Prepare procedure trays, sterilize instruments, and maintain exam room cleanliness
- Apply dressings and topical medications as directed by the provider
- Capture clinical photographs of skin conditions when required
- Educate patients on treatment plans, post-procedure care, and follow-up instructions
- Document clinical information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Assist with scheduling, prescription refills, pathology coordination, and phone triage as needed
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and assist with ordering
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards

Required Skills & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent clinical experience
- Dermatology experience preferred but not required
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures
- Experience with EMR systems preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
- Prior experience working with an autoclave machine, including instrument sterilization and maintenance
- Experience using Modernizing Medicine (ModMed) EMA EMR system
- Experience assisting with dermatology-specific procedures
- Comfort working with both medical and cosmetic patients
- Strong attention to detail and professionalism
- Team-oriented with a positive, patient-first mindset
