Structural Bridge Engineer

• Lead and oversee bridge, dam, pump station, and attenuator inspection and maintenance programs throughout Wayne County.
• Review project priorities, define scopes of work, and develop repair and preventative maintenance plans for critical infrastructure assets.
• Conduct field reviews of ongoing bridge, pump station, dam, and attenuator repair and rehabilitation projects.
• Manage and update bridge inspection reports, asset inventories, RFAs, load ratings, and compliance documentation within the MiBridge system.
• Perform bridge load ratings, condition assessments, and cost estimates for repairs and rehabilitation projects.
• Develop and maintain bi-weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance schedules for pump stations, dams, and attenuators.
• Plan and direct routine bridge inspections, fracture-critical inspections, scour inspections, underwater inspections, and other specialized structural inspections.
• Evaluate bridge repair methods, construction materials, and maintenance strategies to ensure long-term infrastructure performance and safety.
• Monitor the structural, mechanical, and electrical integrity of pump stations and participate in quarterly operational review meetings.
• Generate repair cost estimates, RFAs, RFPs, and scopes of work for infrastructure maintenance and consulting services.
• Manage engineering consultants and contractors performing bridge inspections, load ratings, structural evaluations, and maintenance-related work.
• Supervise and mentor engineers, inspectors, coordinators, and maintenance personnel while providing daily technical guidance and leadership.
• Collaborate closely with MDOT, county officials, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders on infrastructure projects and compliance initiatives.
• Review and approve engineering reports, inspection findings, repair recommendations, load ratings, and maintenance plans.
• Make key engineering decisions regarding repair materials, rehabilitation methods, bridge repairs, temporary support systems, and structural safety improvements.
• Ensure compliance with FHWA, MDOT, and county regulations to support continued federal funding eligibility.
• Help maintain the safety, reliability, and long-term performance of Wayne County's bridges and structural assets.
• Attend industry training, bridge inspection certification courses, conferences, and seminars to stay current on engineering standards and best practices.
• Perform additional engineering and infrastructure-related duties as needed.

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Construction Engineering
• Michigan PE License required
• 6+ years of structural/bridge engineering experience
• 2+ years leading structural engineering projects as a Licensed PE
• FHWA Bridge Inspection Certification
• Experience with bridge inspections, load ratings, and structural design
• Proficiency with AASHTOware Bridge Rating Software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office
• Experience managing RFPs, bids, consultant selections, and engineering service contracts
• Valid Michigan Driver's License with a clean driving record (7 points or less)
