Job Description
The Structural Inspector Team Lead will oversee and perform field-based bridge and structural inspections in support of transportation infrastructure projects throughout Massachusetts District 3. This role serves as the technical and operational lead for an inspection team, ensuring inspections are completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with applicable DOT standards. During periods of inclement or unsafe weather, the Team Lead will transition to office-based work focused on reviewing inspection findings, completing reports, validating data, and supporting inspection documentation and deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
• Serve as Team Lead for a structural inspection crew conducting bridge and highway structure inspections
• Perform hands-on field inspections of bridges and ancillary highway structures
• Ensure inspections meet state and federal inspection standards and reporting requirements
• Coordinate daily field activities and work closely with traffic control teams to maintain a safe work environment
• Utilize GIS-based inspection tools and electronic data collection systems to document field conditions
• Review inspection findings, verify data accuracy, and support reporting efforts
Mentor and support junior inspectors within the team

Required Skills & Experience
Required Qualifications
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred OR
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with minimum 2 years of structural or bridge inspection experience
• Hands-on bridge inspection experience
• Completion of NHI 130087 – Ancillary Highway Structures Course (required)
• Ability to work outdoors and perform physical inspection activities
Familiarity with DOT inspection practices and safety protocols
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Preferred Experience
• Prior experience leading or supervising inspection teams
• Experience working on DOT-funded or state transportation projects
• Strong documentation and reporting skills using digital tools
• Ancillary Highway or Bridge inspection experience
