Job Description

The Product Development Engineer (PDE) serves as the technical lead for pre-production manufacturing, translating engineering designs into executable process flows. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams (design, manufacturing, quality, planning, and tooling) to ensure new products are successfully developed, validated, and transitioned into full production.

In early stages, the PDE develops manufacturing methods, process flows, and intermediate CAD models. As programs mature, this role supports routing creation, prototyping, troubleshooting, and process validation to achieve production readiness and quality compliance.

Key Responsibilities
-Interpret engineering drawings/models and define end-to-end manufacturing process flows
-Develop Manufacturing Control Drawings (MCDs) and reverse-engineer product geometry back to raw material stages
-Establish manufacturing sequences, tooling requirements, and in-process inspection criteria
-Collaborate with planning to generate and validate detailed production routings
-Support prototype builds, troubleshooting, and process refinement alongside manufacturing teams
-Create visual work instructions for production
-Review and approve tooling designs; initiate tool orders as needed
-Lead manufacturing readiness reviews and drive action item closure
Support disposition of nonconformances, including root cause and corrective action development
Conduct or support manufacturing simulations (e.g., forming, fabrication processes) as required
Contribute to cost estimates for new programs and spares (labor, tooling, methods)
Assist with inspection planning, process improvements, and documentation updates
-Provide guidance to junior engineers and cross-functional team members
-Ensure compliance with quality standards (e.g., AS9100) and structured product development methodologies (e.g., APQP)
