Job Description
The Design Project Manager II oversees electric distribution design activities supporting wildfire mitigation and related infrastructure programs. This role is responsible for assigning, reviewing, and approving design work performed by internal teams and external vendors, ensuring quality, consistency, and compliance with a top utility client. This position does not perform hands-on design or signing off of designs. Pay is $60-70/hr
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and oversee electric distribution design from a system assembly and process perspective
• Assign, track, review, and approve design work completed by vendors and design teams
• Perform quality control (QC) and ensure adherence to specific design standards and processes
• Provide design guidance, training, and technical advisement as needed
• Coordinate and manage multiple external design vendors supporting wildfire mitigation work
• Support the program’s transition toward a future design-build delivery model
• Review and sign off on completed design packages prior to construction handoff
• Manage purchase requisitions (PRs) and support purchase order (PO) coordination
• Collaborate with a Design Supervisor and Program PM in a one‑to‑many support model
Interface with engineering, construction, procurement, and finance stakeholders

Required Skills & Experience
Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in electric distribution design, utility engineering, or design-focused project management
• Strong understanding of electric distribution systems and design processes
• Experience managing or overseeing external design vendors
Strong SAP experience.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Preferred Experience
• Familiarity with Xcel Energy design standards and environments
• Experience with Smallworld and Design Manager
• Working knowledge of GE packages and utility procurement workflows
• Prior wildfire mitigation program experience
