Job Description
Insight Global is looking for a Mineral Rights & Regulatory Consultant for a 4 ½‑month remote contract to support a lithium extraction initiative focused on oil and gas brine water (non‑hard‑rock lithium). This consultant will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive, research‑backed report outlining how lithium rights are secured, the cost to acquire those rights, who currently owns them, and the regulatory and ownership complexities involved—specifically in Alberta and British Columbia.
The role is closely tied to oil and gas operations, where lithium extraction will occur via modular units installed in partnership with existing oil and gas operators. Responsibilities include evaluating mineral and subsurface rights, Crown vs private ownership, Indigenous considerations, environmental and regulatory requirements, and acquisition pathways. The engagement is narrowly scoped and outcome‑driven, aimed at enabling near‑term execution in Western Canada with a longer‑term vision to expand eastward.

Required Skills & Experience
Must haves:
- Experience with mineral rights, subsurface rights, or resource ownership analysis
- Strong understanding of oil and gas mineral rights frameworks, particularly in Alberta
- Knowledge of lithium extraction from oil & gas brines or comparable mineral extraction methods
- Experience navigating environmental and regulatory approval processes
- Ability to assess who owns mineral/lithium rights (Crown, private, surface vs subsurface)
- Experience with acquiring or repurchasing mineral rights, including from private individuals
- Understanding of Indigenous land rights and consultation processes, especially in Alberta
- Strong research and documentation skills with the ability to produce a clear, defensible report
- Ability to work independently in a short‑term, consultant‑style engagement
- Oil and gas industry familiarity
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Direct experience working on lithium projects
- Background in environmental or regulatory consulting
- Experience partnering with oil and gas operators on co‑located technologies
- Familiarity with British Columbia’s regulatory environment
- Experience working with Indigenous bands on mineral or resource rights
- Legal, land, or regulatory training related to Crown land and subsurface rights
