Job Description
A top employer in the state and local government technology space is looking for a Senior Technical Project Manager to join their team. This individual will lead large, high‑visibility implementation projects for state government clients, serving as the primary delivery lead from kickoff through production deployment. The role requires strong delivery ownership, the ability to manage complex stakeholder environments, and the confidence to push back tactfully and professionally when needed. This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for keeping development teams on track while navigating the unique challenges of government programs.
Some responsibilities of the Senior Technical Project Manager will include but are not limited to:
Leading large‑scale, multi‑year technology implementation projects exceeding $3M in budget
Managing and coordinating a development team of 5–8 resources
Owning delivery execution from project kickoff through deployment
Serving as the primary client‑facing delivery lead for state government stakeholders
Ensuring development teams stay on task and aligned to delivery timelines
Supporting RFP responses by coordinating materials, aligning with engineering, and discussing project methodology
Managing 1 project initially, with the ability to ramp up to 3 concurrent projects
Navigating high‑pressure, highly visible state government environments and pushing back when necessary in a professional manner
Working primarily on implementation projects, with occasional staff augmentation engagements
LOCATION/TRAVEL:
Michigan based
In‑office a minimum of one day per week
In‑person meetings with state government stakeholders at least once per month
SCHEDULE:
Monday – Friday
8 hours per day within the 8:00am – 6:00pm timeframe (aligned to Central Time as needed)

The role requires strong judgment, executive‑level communication, and the ability to handle pressure
This is not a task‑level PM role; delivery leadership and stakeholder management are critical

Required Skills & Experience
- Local to Michigan, ability to be onsite in
- 5–7+ years of experience in State, Local, or Federal Government within Technical Project Management managing software development project
- Familiarity with enterprise‑level technology stacks (e.g., IBM, Red Hat, similar)
- Experience working in Agile and/or Waterfall delivery environments
