Job Description

A large Hospital in the southern California area is looking for an Accounting manager to join their team. The Accounting Manager – Grants, Government Contracts & Compliance serves as a subject‑matter expert (SME) for grant and government contract accounting within the children’s hospital. This role is highly hands‑on and oversees accounting, compliance, and reporting for federal, state, county, and philanthropic funding sources. The manager leads a small but experienced accounting team and is deeply involved in day‑to‑day technical work, staff development, and regulatory compliance. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the hospital’s compliance with Uniform Guidance, proper management of indirect cost rates, and accurate financial reporting for government‑funded programs that support pediatric care, research, and community health initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience

- 8–10 years of hospital or healthcare finance/accounting experience
- Demonstrated experience in grants and government contract accounting within a healthcare.
- Strong working knowledge of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and related federal regulations.
- Experience with indirect cost rate development and negotiation, particularly with HHS or similar agencies.
- Proven people leadership skills; must be a strong people‑oriented manager capable of leading a small team without layered supervision.
Advanced Excel skills for complex financial analysis, schedules, and reporting.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- CPA
- ERP System: Peoplesoft or Workday
- Experience with complex cash and bank reconciliation
Experience in a children’s hospital or academic medical center.
