Job Description

A large OEM in Detroit, MI is seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer to support daily production operations within General Assembly. This role is heavily floor-focused and works closely with production, materials, and union teams to drive productivity, line balance, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on production support role, ideal for an IE who can ramp up quickly and is comfortable working directly on the plant floor.

Responsibilities:
• Provide daily production support for General Assembly operations
• Perform line balancing, time studies, and productivity analysis
• Conduct time analysis using MODAPTS
• Identify and implement continuous improvement (CI) initiatives
• Partner closely with Production, Materials, and Union teams on the floor
• Support material planning at workstations (training provided if needed)
• Develop and support productivity and CI plans in a union manufacturing environment
• Assist with workstation layout and design, with a strong focus on ergonomics
• Perform throughput analysis to improve operational efficiency
• Collaborate across functions to resolve daily production issues
• Occasionally support off-shift production needs by staying late to meet with 2nd shift (no dedicated 2nd shift IE team)

Compensation: $35-40/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of Industrial Engineering experience in an automotive manufacturing environment
• Automotive experience at an OEM or Tier 1 supplier
• Strong experience supporting General Assembly
• Hands-on experience with:
• Line balancing
• Time studies
• Productivity analysis
• Continuous improvement
• Time analysis experience (MODAPTS)
• Ability to ramp up quickly in a production environment
• Comfortable working 100% onsite in a union plant setting

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Prior GM manufacturing experience
• AutoCAD experience
• Experience with Power BI
• Strong Excel skills (exposure to AI-enabled tools is a plus)
• Experience in union environments
• Background in ergonomics
• Throughput analysis experience
• Exposure to Body Shop or Paint Shop environments
• Experience with additive manufacturing or designing/developing production aids
