Job Description

A gas turbine company is looking for a Sr Principal Engineer to join their team. The Turbine Production Engineering (TPE) team you would be joining provides technical engineering support to manufacturing, operations, and supply chain partners for gas turbine components and assemblies across all engine model lines. This role serves as the technical authority for an assigned part family, ensuring quality, cost, and manufacturing velocity objectives are met.
The Quality Design Engineer works cross‑functionally with manufacturing, operations, supply chain, and design engineering to resolve quality issues, support new production introductions, and drive long‑term process improvements. Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, structured problem‑solving, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
-Act as first responder providing technical support for new manufacturing operations
-Serve as the technical authority for material review board (MRB) disposition of non‑conforming material
-Ensure dimensional and process integrity through PPAP review and approval
-Interpret design requirements, engineering specifications, and manufacturing processes across castings, forgings, machining, and fabrications
-Lead and execute projects using Lean, Six Sigma, and structured problem‑solving methodologies
-Drive sustained manufacturing and quality improvements through process rigor and cross‑functional collaboration
-Promote product quality, durability, and manufacturability through engagement with multidisciplinary teams
-Travel as required to support manufacturing and supplier activities

Required Skills & Experience

-Bachelor of Science in Engineering
-10+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing, quality, or production engineering environments
-Strong knowledge of design practices, quality management systems, and manufacturing processes
-Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and a strong sense of urgency
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated technical leadership
-Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across diverse teams
Technical Skills
-Experience with quality systems and processes such as RCCA, BIQ, COR/CAR, PPAP, RN/RTA
-Ability to read and interpret GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
-Ability to interpret CMM, ATOS, and similar inspection reports
-Basic proficiency with CAD tools such as Pro‑E / CREO
-Working knowledge of machining and non‑destructive testing (NDT) processes

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

-Experience with turbomachinery design, manufacturing, or supplier technical support
-Knowledge of mechanical design engineering methodologies
-Familiarity with manufacturing processes including castings, forgings, sheet metal, precision machining, coatings, heat treatment, brazing, and welding
-Experience reviewing and dispositioning discrepant material
-Six Sigma Black Belt and DMAIC experience
-Demonstrated capability in data analytics and development of digital solutions
-Strong problem‑solving mindset with the ability to develop creative, independent solutions
