Job Description

The Functional Architect defines and governs end-to-end business process design across Oracle Cloud HCM modules, including Core HR, Recruiting, Absence, Compensation, Talent, and Position Management. The role ensures that employment lifecycle events (hire, transfer, rehire, termination, retroactivity, position changes) are coherently designed across modules and aligned with UCSF policy and operating model.

Responsibilities include reviewing and approving functional design decisions, validating cross-module impacts, clarifying business rules, and ensuring configuration intent reflects approved process outcomes. The Architect resolves ambiguity in functional requirements and provides authoritative interpretation when process conflicts or design gaps emerge.
The Functional Architect provides oversight of functional configuration to ensure alignment with approved design, policy requirements, and operational intent. This includes review of configuration workbooks, validation of effective-dated logic and assignment modeling, confirmation of approval workflows, and assessment of security role intent from a functional perspective.

The Architect evaluates whether configuration supports operational realities (e.g., academic appointments, position control, multiple assignments, compensation structures) and prevents downstream processing or reporting inconsistencies.
The role leads structured review and classification of functional defects, distinguishing between configuration gaps, misunderstood requirements, business process misalignment, or data-related issues, and provides remediation recommendations.
