Job Description

Position Overview
The Head of People & Workplace is responsible for leading and executing the company’s people, workplace, safety, and support operations for a 50-employee organization.
This role combines hands-on operational leadership (HSE & Facilities) with functional supervision of HR and IT workplace operations, ensuring business continuity, compliance, employee experience, and operational efficiency.
The position is a member of the Management Team and contributes to company-wide decision-making and performance oversight.

Direct functional supervision:
• Senior HR Specialist
• IT Workstation Specialist

Direct operational ownership:
• HSE (Health, Safety & Environment)
• Facility Management

Key Responsibilities

1. HSE & Facility Management (Operational Lead)
• Directly manage workplace safety and environmental compliance
• Ensure adherence to federal, state (Washington), and local regulations
• Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation plans
• Oversee facility operations, vendor management, and maintenance
• Lead workplace improvement or expansion projects
• Maintain emergency preparedness and business continuity plans
• Monitor and report on safety and facilities KPIs
This area requires hands-on involvement and day-to-day oversight.

2. HR Oversight (Supervision of HR Specialist)
• Supervise and support the HR Specialist in operational execution
• Oversee workforce planning and hiring priorities
• Ensure compliance with Washington State and federal labor laws
• Monitor HR KPIs (retention, engagement, time-to-hire, performance cycles)
• Support performance management and talent development initiatives
• Act as escalation point for complex employee relations matter

3. IT Workplace Oversight (Supervision of IT Specialist)
• Supervise the IT Workstation Specialist
• Act as local liaison with Corporate IT when necessary
• Ensure service level performance (ticket resolution times)
• Ensure IT supports operational needs
• Escalate critical IT risks impacting business continuity

4. Management & Performance Leadership
• Serve as a member of the Management Team
• Contribute to company strategy and operational planning
• Develop and maintain a People & Workplace performance dashboard
• Manage departmental budgets (HSE, Facilities, HR, IT workplace)
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives
• Provide regular reporting to leadership

Required Skills & Experience

Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in HSE, HR, workplace management, or related fields
• Experience supervising at least 1–2 functional specialists
• Experience in a 40–100 employee organization preferred
• Ability to combine hands-on operational execution with management oversight
• Strong organizational, compliance, and stakeholder management skills
