Senior Fullstack Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to be the first engineering hire on a growing technology team that will scale over the next year. This role is ideal for a seasoned backend-focused software engineer with strong Python experience who enjoys building core services, infrastructure components, and data pipelines from the ground up. You will work closely with the current engineering lead, who is temporarily covering all aspects of system design and implementation, and play a key role in establishing backend foundations, engineering standards, and delivery patterns. While client-facing interaction is part of the role, the primary focus is backend systems and services.


Key Responsibilities
Backend Services & Systems (Primary Focus)
• Design, build, and maintain Python-based backend services, APIs, and internal platforms that support client and product use cases.
• Develop scalable, reliable web services and supporting infrastructure components.
• Contribute to system design, service orchestration, and backend architecture decisions as the platform evolves.

Data Pipelines & Infrastructure
• Build and maintain data pipelines and backend workflows that support analytics, reporting, and operational use cases.
• Ensure data systems are robust, maintainable, and production-ready.
• Collaborate on infrastructure-related components such as service configuration, deployment patterns, and operational tooling.

Client-Facing Engineering Support
• Participate in select client-facing engagements to understand requirements, support onboarding, and explain technical solutions.
• Work with internal stakeholders to translate business needs into backend technical implementations.
• Travel up to 25% for client meetings, discovery sessions, and key delivery milestones.

Team & Platform Growth
• Partner closely with the engineering lead to help scale the backend function as additional engineers join in 2026.
• Establish and follow engineering best practices for code quality, testing, documentation, and deployment.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing and technical decision-making as the team grows

Requirements
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience:
o 5–6+ years of professional backend software engineering experience
o Strong track record of building and maintaining production systems
• Core Technical Skills:
o Advanced proficiency in Python for backend development
o Experience building APIs and backend services
o Strong SQL skills and experience working with data stores
o Experience developing and supporting data pipelines or backend workflows
o Proficiency with Git and collaborative development practices
• Other:
o Comfortable in a client-facing environment (not a pure internal role)
o Practical, hands-on engineering mindset
o Willingness to travel up to 25%

Preferred Qualifications
• Background in backend or platform engineering (not data science)
• Experience in early-stage or scaling engineering teams
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Familiarity with modern backend architectures and service-oriented design
• Experience working alongside product or consulting teams
