A Day in the Life of a typical Jira Administrator I typically includes conducting requirements analysis
with the customers to design solutions that will enable the best use of Jira for project management and
software development. They will be responsible for all Jira instance operations along with managing end
user requests for project set up, configurations, workflows and automation, reporting, and more. They
can expect to create and maintain documentation on best practices, standard operating procedures, and
usage guidelines using various formats, including videos, PowerPoint, PDFs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Jira requirements analysis to provide set up for all customer needs.
Administer Jira projects, workflows, permissions, and users, including external plug-in integration
and JQL modification.
Enhance Jira security and set access permissions for projects and spaces.
Expertly manage Jira filters, reporting, dashboards, workflows, and fields.
Migrate, integrate, and consolidate Jira instances and projects.
Provide general and technical Atlassian tool support to users either by phone or remote access,
and when needed, diagnose, and troubleshoot technical issues.
Analyze, review, and document current system functionality for enhancement.
Manage user permissions across various projects and teams.
Perform system administration tasks, including data backups and scheduled jobs.
Test compatibility with new versions of tools and plug-ins.
Employ industry standard methods and techniques for system optimization.
Effectively communicate and share knowledge with both internal and external stakeholders.
Handle incident ticket data for comprehensive reporting and analytics.
Experience in writing custom JQL (Jira Query Language).
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Bachelors degree in computer science or related field.
Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience as a Jira Administrator using the Atlassian product
suite: Jira Cloud, Jira Data Center (Jira DC), and Jira Service Management (JSM).
Jira Administration Certification is a plus (Cloud, Data Center and Server)
Expertise in Atlassian tool administration: Administer Jira projects, workflows, permissions, and
users, including external plug-in integration and JQL modification.
Skills in system task automation using scripting languages like bash, python, or perl.
In-depth knowledge of Atlassian installations, migrations, customization, and plugin installations.
Strong analytical skills and agility in a dynamic environment.
Excellent time management, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Ability to train and support users effectively, including content creation and presentation
The pay for thins position ranges from $35-$45/hr depending on years of experience,
