Job Description
We are seeking an Embedded Computer Engineer who will be responsible for Rapid Embedded System Design & Prototyping on a small engineering team in Crane, IN. We are looking for someone to design, develop, integrate, and test embedded firmware and autonomy software for rapidly developed prototype systems supporting robotics, simulation, and special operations applications, while collaborating across hardware, software, and field-testing efforts. Responsibilities include:
- Firmware & Software Development. Design, develop, and test firmware and embedded C software for microcontrollers (e.g., RP2040 architectures) and single-board computers. Implement communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet) to reliably interface with sensors and custom hardware.
- Autonomy & Robotics Integration. Develop and integrate software for autonomy, control algorithms, and edge computing on robotics platforms. Utilize frameworks like ROS (Robot Operating System) to integrate custom code with COTS/GOTS hardware to support fast-paced project requirements.
- System Integration & Bench Testing. Perform hands-on benchtop debugging, code flashing, and software-to-hardware integration alongside electrical and mechanical engineers to build functional prototypes.
- Technical Data Package (TDP). The contractor shall ensure that a level 2 Technical Data Package is prepared and delivered for assigned projects that reach the prototype or low-rate production stages of development. The contractor shall assist in the development of the TDP.
- Prototype Project Briefs: The contractor shall create and maintain basic briefs for various prototype devices.
Test, Evaluation, & Field Support
- Test Plan Development. The contractor shall prepare and deliver Test Plans for functional, performance, and environmental testing of prototypes.
- Functional Testing & Failure Analysis. Validate software and hardware integration performance using standard debugging tools. Conduct root cause failure analysis on code, communication buses, and embedded systems to rapidly inform iterative software updates.
- CONUS Field Test Support: Travel to various Continental United States (CONUS) locations to support live test events and operational evaluations. Provide essential on-site technical support, real-time troubleshooting, and data collection for prototype systems under test.
- Low-Rate Production Support
- Coordination. The contractor shall interact with and coordinate prototype and low-rate production with external parties tasked with producing units for assigned projects.
- Communication. The contractor shall provide routine status updates via the Monthly Status Report. The contractor shall communicate urgent matters involving production issues to the government in a timely manner via phone, email, or other normal communication methods.
- Supply Chain. The contractor shall purchase material for the government as needed to support prototype and low-rate production for assigned projects. The value of purchases will be within contract ceiling and defined in specific task orders/instructions.
