Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Contract Customs Specialist to support our high-volume import operations. This role is ideal for someone with a foundation in freight forwarding or import logistics who is eager to grow into a specialized customs position. You’ll play a critical part in processing air and ocean imports, ensuring accurate documentation, and supporting our customs compliance team during a period of increased workload and ongoing hiring challenges.
This contract role is designed as an interim solution with the potential to convert to a permanent position, depending on performance and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
· Process air and ocean import shipments, with a focus on customs entry preparation and review.
· Work with international shipping documents (commercial invoices, packing lists, airway bills, bills of lading, certificates of origin).
· Enter and track customs data in Magid’s homegrown AS400 system and Questa web platform (training provided).
· Support daily and weekly customs workflows, including handling discrepancies and escalating issues to senior team members.
· Collaborate closely with the customs and logistics team (entry writers, dispatch specialist, FTZ specialists, senior logistics specialist, and management).
· Assist with high-volume FTZ-related documentation, auditing tasks, and import admissions.
Maintain accuracy and compliance in a fast-paced environment with evolving auditing initiatives.
Compensation $52,000 - $60,320

Required Qualifications
· Freight forwarding or import logistics experience (air & ocean shipments).
· Understanding of international shipping documentation and the import lifecycle.
· Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and comfort with high-volume documentation.
· Ability to work onsite in Romeoville, IL.
· Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional environments.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with customs entry writing or FTZ processes.
· Exposure to ERP, WMS, or legacy systems (AS400 familiarity helpful but not required).
· Basic knowledge of HTS classifications or trade documentation.
