Job Description
A large retail company is seeking an experienced Lead Payment Systems Engineer with strong .NET/C# expertise for a hybrid role based in Lincolnshire, IL, where candidates are required to work in the Lincolnshire office 2-3 days per week. This role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining secure, high-performance payment platforms, including developing RESTful APIs and microservices, integrating with payment gateways and banks, ensuring high availability and scalability, implementing PCI DSS compliant solutions, monitoring transaction flows, troubleshooting production issues, and improving reconciliation and settlement processes. The salary expectation for this role is $150k - $160k.

Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of hands-on experience with C#, .NET, and ASP.NET Core
- 5+ years of experience in retail and multi-channel payments (POS, e-commerce, mobile, and alternative payment methods)
- Strong experience building RESTful APIs, microservices, and backend distributed systems
- Proficiency with relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL)
- Solid knowledge of secure coding practices, encryption, authentication, and PCI DSS compliance
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills for mission-critical systems
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Experience integrating with payment processors and gateways (Stripe, Adyen, PayPal, Fiserv, Authorize.net, etc.)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure or AWS) and cloud-native .NET applications
- Knowledge of messaging systems such as Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, or Kafka
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
Background in fintech, financial services, or high-availability payment systems
- Familiarity with SOX or other financial compliance standar
