Job Description

The Automation Engineer (AE) supports the site maintenance team to ensure optimal performance and reliability of material handling equipment (MHE) control systems. This role partners closely with maintenance and operations teams to troubleshoot, maintain, and improve automation systems including conveyors, sortation, labeling, and control systems.
The AE serves as a technical subject matter expert, helping resolve complex issues, supporting system upgrades, and contributing to project execution. This role also assists in developing technicians and improving overall system efficiency within a modern, safety-first facility.

Required Skills & Experience

- 3+ years of experience (or 2-year degree + 1 year experience) in:
~PLC/HMI/VFD programming and commissioning
~SCADA systems and performance metrics (KPIs)
~Reading and modifying electrical and mechanical drawings
~Supporting conveyors and sortation systems
~Working with control components (relays, motor starters, VFDs, HMIs)
- Experience troubleshooting and supporting material handling control systems
- Exposure to Allen Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix / CompactLogix) and Rockwell software
- Experience with industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, etc.)
- High school diploma or equivalent

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Associate’s degree in Electronic Technology (or similar)
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field
- 4+ years of experience in:
~ Electrical systems or control systems development/troubleshooting
~ Advanced automation controls maintenance and development
- 3+ years supporting conveyors and sortation systems
- Experience with:
~Servo drives and frequency drives
~Electrical distribution systems
- Leadership or project management experience
- Experience working with vendors and supporting capital projects
