Job Description
This role is responsible for leading and managing all environmental compliance efforts at a manufacturing site. The Environmental Specialist ensures the facility operates in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while supporting safe and sustainable operations.

Key responsibilities include:
• Managing site environmental programs (air, water, waste)
• Ensuring compliance with permits such as Title V Air, NPDES, SPCC, and SWPPP
• Acting as the main point of contact for regulatory agencies (EPA, IEPA, MWRD)
• Leading audits and handling regulatory reporting (Tier II, emissions, hazardous waste, etc.)
• Overseeing waste management processes and vendor relationships
• Tracking environmental KPIs and driving continuous improvement initiatives
Providing training to employees on environmental compliance and safety protocols

Required Skills & Experience

Must-Haves:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
• Strong experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Expertise in environmental regulations:
○ CAA, CWA, RCRA, EPCRA
○ Title V Air Permitting (high priority)
• Experience with:
○ Regulatory reporting (Tier II, emissions inventories, hazardous waste, water reports)
○ Regulatory audits and agency interaction
• Hands-on experience managing environmental compliance programs at the site level
• Knowledge of permits and plans:
○ NPDES, SPCC, SWPPP, Industrial Discharge
• Experience tracking environmental metrics and KPIs
Strong communication skills with ability to work across plant leadership, operations, and regulators

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Nice-to-Haves:
• Certifications:
○ HAZWOPER (20-hour)
○ RCRA
○ DOT
• Experience with systems/tools:
○ SAP, Microsoft Access
○ Compliance tracking tools (Velocity, Compliance Calendar)
○ Waste tracking systems
• Background in sustainability initiatives (water usage reduction, waste minimization)
Experience managing third-party vendors (waste, lab testing, environmental services)
