Job Description
We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a mobile application team supporting a customer‑facing app at scale. This role is ideal for a strong problem solver who has fully embraced modern AI‑assisted development tools and can independently take ownership of complex backend work from concept through production.
While the team’s current backend stack includes Golang and AWS, we are far more focused on system design strength, scale experience, and AI fluency than on any single programming language.
This is a senior individual contributor role, partnering closely with the team lead and helping take architectural and design work off their plate.
Own backend features and services end‑to‑end for customer‑facing mobile applications
Design and build high‑throughput, scalable backend systems (language‑agnostic: Go, Java, etc.)
Partner with Product, QA, and Frontend teams in an agile environment (2‑week sprints)
Take work that is not fully sliced into detailed tickets and drive it from concept to delivery
Participate in system design discussions and lead exploration for new features, returning with clear recommendations
Review pull requests and collaborate with 3 other backend engineers
Actively work through backlog items including new features and technical debt
Participate in a light on‑call rotation (approximately one week per month) to support production systems
Must be willing to work EST hours
Compensation:
$70/hr to $80/hr.
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Required Skills & Experience
7–10 years of backend engineering experience
Experience building backend systems for mobile applications at scale
Strong system design and architecture skills
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS)
Proven ability to manage time well, show up, communicate clearly, and cover the basics without being asked
A self‑directed engineer who can be trusted to take ownership and deliver
Comfortable reviewing others’ code and contributing to technical discussions
Prior experience working on customer‑facing, high‑availability systems
Deep, hands‑on experience using Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI coding tools
Demonstrated examples of shipping meaningful work faster using AI
Experience leading design exploration for new backend features
A track record of independently owning complex systems or services
Strong problem‑solving instincts paired with modern engineering practices
Use tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and similar AI IDEs daily
Go well beyond autocomplete or basic test generation
Actively spin up multiple workstreams, iterate quickly, and use AI to accelerate delivery
Have built side projects or production features using AI‑assisted workflows
Can clearly articulate how AI tools are used in their day‑to‑day engineering process
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Deep, hands‑on experience using Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI coding tools
