Job Description
An Insight Global Client is seeking a highly analytical engineer to validate, evaluate, and continuously improve advanced rail technology systems that integrate electrical, mechanical, software, networking, controls, and AI-enabled components. This role owns the question of how the systems actually behave in the field: where they diverge from design intent, why one deployment outperforms another, and what changes will measurably improve quality, reliability, efficiency, and scalability. The work spans verification and validation, hands-on electromechanical troubleshooting, root cause analysis, performance and operational data analysis, and process improvement across both engineering and field operations. This is not a traditional QA position. We are not hiring a software test engineer, and we are not hiring someone to just document defects and hand them off.
This is a systems-level quality engineering role. You will define what "correct" means for a system nobody else has built, prove where and why it deviates, and drive corrective and preventive action across hardware, software, controls, AI models, deployment practices, and manual work processes. Influence in this role comes from evidence: instrumented measurements, structured analysis, and quantified improvement.
• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, validation procedures, and acceptance criteria for integrated electromechanical automation systems.
• Perform functional, integration, regression, system, and failure-condition testing across hardware, software, sensors, actuators, controls, and AI-enabled behavior.
• Identify, reproduce, document, and track defects through resolution; validate that corrective actions resolve the underlying issue.
• Troubleshoot electrical and electromechanical problems using schematics, measurements, system data, and structured diagnostic methods.
• Analyze defect, failure, performance, and operational data to identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement.
• Apply structured problem-solving methods such as root cause analysis, 5 Whys, Pareto analysis, FMEA, DMAIC, and corrective/preventive action.
• Study manual and automated work processes to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, throughput, consistency, reliability, and cost.
• Quantify process and automation opportunities using cycle time, labor utilization, defect reduction, throughput, and other relevant metrics.
• Collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, software, AI, DevSecOps, quality, and operations teams to resolve complex system issues.
• Create clear technical documentation, including test results, defect reports, investigation summaries, quality records, and improvement recommendations.

Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience in quality engineering, systems testing, process engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial automation, systems engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong understanding of electrical and electromechanical systems, including sensors, actuators, digital and analog signals, I/O, relays, motors, power systems, and basic control systems.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and use structured methods to troubleshoot electrical and electromechanical issues.
• Experience developing and executing test plans, documenting defects, analyzing results, and validating corrective actions.
• Demonstrated experience with root cause analysis, structured problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making.
• Ability to understand interactions between electrical, mechanical, software, controls, and physical process variables.
• Strong analytical skills, including the ability to identify trends, distinguish symptoms from root causes, and prioritize issues based on impact.
• Ability to analyze physical work processes and identify opportunities for automation, efficiency, quality, safety, or reliability improvements.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
