Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Director of Application Development for a leading higher education nonprofit client. This leader will architect, develop, and support internal and external applications that enable campus stakeholders and fundraising teams to operate efficiently. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with strong communication skills and thrives in a collaborative, low drama environment. This role blends 60% management with 40% hands on engineering, working across .NET, React, SQL, Power BI, and Blackbaud CRM while guiding a growing team and driving strategic technology initiatives — including ongoing AI exploration.
Day to Day:
60% of the time Management:
- Lead a team of 2 direct reports + 2 dotted-line junior contributors
- Oversee full stack development, data integrations, and donor facing portal support
- Manage integration projects (MailChimp, GiveCampus, GiveOfficer, Salesforce)
- Manage month long sprint planning & task assignment
- Attend development committee meetings with the Board of Trustees
- Lead AI discovery and strategy initiatives
- Serve as liaison to Blackbaud services, manage service pack upgrades
- Provide architectural guidance & mentor junior developers
40% of the time doing:
- Write SQL statements, adjust forms in Blackbaud CRM
- Write reports using Power BI / SSRS
- Hands-on full stack development (React, .NET)
- Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure solutions meet business needs
Direct Placement Roles:
Compensation:
$145,000 to $155,000 per year annual salary.
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Required Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of experience leading and managing software development teams
- Strong experience mentoring junior developers & conducting code reviews
- Full stack engineering background with .NET and React
- Excellent stakeholder-facing communication & ability to translate business needs
- SQL expertise
- Experience managing end to end software projects and breaking down complex solutions
- Full SDLC experience
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- AI or Copilot experience (they use Anthropic/Claude tools)
- Power Platform exposure (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate)
- Blackbaud CRM experience (used by Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, Emory, etc.)
- Nonprofit experience
- Tableau experience
- Experience with app server setup and CI
