Job Description

The newly formed Data Governance team within Enterprise Data Blueprint (EDB) is an exciting group created to transform us into a data-driven enterprise. We use data to drive business strategy, innovation, and improvements to solve business problems.

The Data Governance Specialist supports the Sr. Manager, Data Governance in their accountabilities in embedding Data Governance across data domains and acts as the Organizer/Administrator for Domain Councils. This will include the provision of reporting to the Data Domain Council and management of the Working Group, issue/risk management in relation to Data Governance, and monitoring the activities of Data Governance.

An important aspect of this role will be to coordinate the level of reporting metrics between Working Group, such that the Data Domain Council is presented with comparable metrics for an issue with a similar business impact.



What you'll be doing:

* Working with the Sr. Manager, Data Governance and responsible for managing and implementing the Data Governance framework, policies, and standards within the organization.

* Collaborating with data domain owners, data stewards and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with data regulations and policies.

* Ensuring that Data Governance policies and practices are properly communicated and adhered to across the organization.

* Providing subject matter expertise on Data Governance best practices.

* Monitoring and reporting on Data Governance metrics and progress.

* Assisting the Sr. Manager, Data Governance to liaise with data projects (e.g. Project Compass) and embed Data Governance into data project methodology, including the creation and implementation of the Data Governance Project Checklist.

* Facilitate data domains to capture and document CDEs using DG tool.

* Support the onboarding of users to DG tool.

* Collaborate with data producers and consumers to set data quality expectations, SLAs and monitoring requirements

* Lead incident and problem management for medium and low priority incidents

Required Skills & Experience

What we're looking for:

* Four (5)+ years of data management expertise

* Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection

* Passion for creating business value with data is required

* Experience with Alation or Collibra as an enterprise data catalog is preferred

* Experience in metadata management highly beneficial

* Ability to translate business requirements into critical data dependencies and requirements

* Experience with data profiling or defining data quality rules beneficial

* Experience with reporting and analytics tools

* Proficiency in SQL

* Confidence to dive into data, understand it inside out and how it connects to our stakeholders businesses

* Solid business acumen, and critical problem-solving ability, with a capacity for strategic thinking

* Extremely strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly
