Job Description
A client in the Jacksonville FL area is seeking a Fiber Optic Technician for a contract opportunity, with possibility of fulltime conversion. This Technician/Fabricator will support the assembly, termination, and testing of fiber optic cable assemblies used on U.S. Navy aircraft and platform systems. This role focuses on building and testing fiber optic cables from drawings—not field installation or internet line work.
The Fiber Optic Technician will work closely with the Electrical and Fiber teams during a significant surge in production, supporting both current electrical workloads and upcoming fiber builds driven by newly released customer drawings.
They will be responsible for fabricating and assembling single‑strand fiber optic cable assemblies in accordance with customer drawings, job routers, and work instructions. This role includes performing end‑to‑end fiber terminations on cable assemblies ranging from approximately 4 to 50 feet in length, utilizing connectors and termini such as LC, ST, and SC connectors, as well as Pintermini (Size 2 ARINC‑style), Mighty Mouse, and 2A rank termini. The technician will support high‑volume production efforts by building complex kits, including U.S. Navy test kits that may contain 40 or more cables per kit, while maintaining strict adherence to Military Standards. Responsibilities also include conducting in‑process and final optical testing using approved test equipment, accurately documenting test results such as IOLM traces and light source and power meter readings, and supporting the electrical department during peak production periods as needed. The position requires close collaboration with the Fiber Department Lead and cross‑functional teams to ensure quality, schedule adherence, and compliance with customer requirements.
