Job Description
Our Healthcare Insurance Client is looking for a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer for a remote work from home 1 year renewing contract.
We’re looking for a Senior Platform Engineer who thrives at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, backend engineering, and developer enablement. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys building secure, scalable platforms that abstract complexity away from product teams, while still being close to the underlying systems. You’ll design and operate shared AI-native platforms that power application delivery, cloud native services, CI/CD pipelines, and operational tooling. You’ll collaborate closely with SRE, security, and product engineering teams to ensure the platform is reliable, self-service, and built for scale. This is not a traditional ops role, and it’s not purely application development. The focus is on productizing infrastructure and backend capabilities as platforms.
Required Skills & Experience
What You’ll Do Platform & Cloud Engineering
• Design, build, and operate cloud-native platforms on AWS (or equivalent), emphasizing scalability, availability, security, and cost efficiency
• Embed AI-assisted and agentic workflows into CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure provisioning, incident response, and operational tooling
• Develop and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)
• Build and support shared cloud services such as networking, IAM patterns, managed data services, observability tooling, and service templates
• Partner with SRE and security teams to embed reliability, compliance, and guardrails into platform workflows Backend & Systems Development
• Design and build backend services, APIs, and internal platforms that enable other teams to move faster
• Develop automation and tooling using modern backend languages (e.g., Go, Python, Kotlin, Node, or similar)
• Contribute to service architecture decisions, including service-to-service communication patterns, data access strategies, and resiliency models
• Review code and architectural designs with a focus on performance, operability, and long-term maintainability Developer Enablement
• Create self-service interfaces, documentation, and workflows that reduce friction for application teams • Enable product teams to consume AI-powered platform capabilities through secure, self-service interfaces
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, release automation, and deployment strategies
• Advocate for platform-as-a-product thinking: usability, adoption, and developer experience matter
• Partner with product managers and engineers to understand developer pain points and translate them into platform capabilities Technical Leadership
• Act as a senior technical contributor and mentor to other engineers
• Influence standards and best practices across infrastructure, backend, and platform design
• Participate in architecture reviews and contribute to longer-term platform roadmap discussions
• Lead by example in operational excellence, incident response, and post-incident learning What You Bring Core Skills
• Strong experience in cloud infrastructure engineering and backend service development
• Demonstrated experience for working in AI-native engineering environments, where AI tools, agents, and automation are treated as core collaborators in the development process
• Hands-on experience with: o AWS (EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS/Aurora, S3, IAM, VPC, etc.) o Infrastructure as Code (Terraform strongly preferred)
• One or more backend languages (Go, Python, Kotlin, Node, Java, etc.)
• Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts: scalability, resilience, observability, and failure modes
• Experience building or operating CI/CD pipelines and release automation Platform Mindset
• Ability to think in terms of platforms and products, not just individual systems
• Comfort working with abstractions while still understanding what’s underneath
• Experience enabling other teams through tooling, automation, and guardrails
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially for explaining complex systems clearly
• Self-starting, able to contribute to roadmap, and take initiative with features and user stories Nice to Have
• Full stack experience (React, frontend tooling, or internal UI development), though not required
• Familiarity with LLM platforms, agent frameworks, or AI-enabled developer tooling (commercial or open source)
• Experience with Kubernetes, service meshes, or container orchestration platforms
• Familiarity with security and compliance concepts in regulated environment
