Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Mechanical Lead Design Engineer to support a leading aerospace and defense customer in East Hartford, CT. This individual will serve as the primary design focal point for a complex hardware program, driving technical execution, schedule alignment, risk management, and cross-functional collaboration throughout the product lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will bring strong mechanical design experience in complex aerospace components and systems (bearings, carbon seals, o-rings, cast housings), along with the ability to lead engineering efforts, mentor team members, and influence technical decisions across multiple stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

- Serve as the technical design lead for a component development team, owning design schedules, commitments, deliverables, and execution.
- Drive cross-functional engineering activities and coordinate efforts across design, analysis, manufacturing, quality, and program teams.
- Identify, communicate, and mitigate technical risks while supporting project milestones and customer commitments.
- Support the resolution of field, fleet, manufacturing, and assembly-related engineering issues with urgency.
- Provide engineering guidance for production support activities, including design investigations and corrective actions.
- Lead and mentor engineers through technical reviews, design development, and resource planning activities.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation, design standards, and best practices.
- Support hardware builds, teardowns, testing activities, maintenance operations, and repair facilities as needed.
- Present technical recommendations and design decisions to engineering leadership and program stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 8+ years of mechanical design engineering experience (or 7+ years of experience with a masters degree)
- Experience leading technical projects and driving engineering deliverables from concept through production support.
- Proficiency with CAD modeling and design tools.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and product development.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Aerospace background preferred, not required (automotive, compressor, industrial, etc)
- Experience with bearings, seals, castings, forgings, and machined components.
- Experience supporting lubrication systems, thermal management systems, or rotating hardware.
- Strong understanding of system-level integration and multidisciplinary engineering impacts.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and leading technical development efforts.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, assembly, testing, repair, or overhaul operations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while influencing cross-functional teams.
