Job Description

The Principal Test Engineer / Principal SDET – Nutrien HUB is a hands-on engineering architect and technical leader embedded in one of Nutrien’s most strategic product teams. This role is a backfill for a retiring Principal Engineer and will directly support the Nutrien HUB—a complex, highly integrated digital platform used by sales, presales, agronomists, and data teams.

As a peer to other Principal Test Engineers on the HUB team, you will own the quality and automation strategy for a core HUB domain, help define cross-team standards, and work closely with engineering leadership to ensure HUB can meet its ambitious 2026 roadmap.

This is a Principal Engineer who can be a QA lead, not the other way around. You will set direction for test automation architecture, stay hands-on at the keyboard (primarily in Java and JavaScript/TypeScript), and coach and mentor a dedicated Test Engineer (dotted line), while influencing test engineering across the broader HUB team in a super complex, super fluid environment. The pay rate for this role starts at $68/hr.

We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. We are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer that believes everyone matters. Qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment regardless of their race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital status, national origin, ancestry, genetic factors, age, disability, protected veteran status, military or uniformed service member status, or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances. If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or recruiting process, please send a request to HR@insightglobal.com.To learn more about how we collect, keep, and process your private information, please review Insight Global's Workforce Privacy Policy: https://insightglobal.com/workforce-privacy-policy/.

Required Skills & Experience

Strategic Quality Leadership for Nutrien HUB
• Own the quality strategy and test automation architecture for a major Nutrien HUB domain (e.g., complex workflows and integrations supporting sales, presales, agronomy, and data).
• Act as a principal peer among other Principal Test Engineers on the HUB team, collaborating to define shared quality patterns, KPIs, and platform-wide automation strategies.
• Advocate on behalf of HUB users when assessing product and code quality, ensuring the most critical customer and internal workflows are protected and observable.
• Lead testing, validation, and sign off for HUB domain releases, clearly articulating risk, coverage, and trade-offs to engineering and product leadership.
Architecture & Hands-On Automation
• Design, implement, and evolve test automation frameworks and tooling for HUB using Java and JavaScript/TypeScript, with emphasis on scalability, maintainability, and reuse across teams.
• Build and maintain robust automated test suites across UI, API, integration, and data flows, enabling effective Continuous Integration & Continuous Testing for HUB.
• Pair with developers and test engineers to review code, test design, and automation patterns, driving a consistently high level of code coverage and test effectiveness.
• Evaluate existing test automation tools and frameworks and lead POCs or migrations when better approaches are needed to support the HUB AI roadmap and integration complexity.
Team Leadership, Coaching & Alignment
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to a dedicated Test Engineer working closely with you (dotted-line relationship), helping them grow toward a more senior/architect level.
• Mentor other engineers across the HUB team; review their automation implementations and share best practices that improve quality across multiple domains.
• Monitor test processes, automation code health, and technical debt; prioritize improvements that keep teams moving quickly without sacrificing reliability.
Team Practices & Collaboration
• Actively participate in all team rituals: stand-ups, planning, refinement, retrospectives, etc., often serving as the quality and automation voice in those conversations.
• Lead or heavily influence refinement and estimation for features and user stories, ensuring acceptance criteria and testability are clearly defined and QA effort accurately estimated.
• Collaborate with Engineering Leaders, Product Managers, and UX to define acceptance tests, “Done” criteria, and consistent user experience expectations across HUB.
Complex, Fluid Environment Execution
• Operate effectively in a super complex, fast-changing product space with evolving requirements, new AI-enabled features, and multiple system integrations.
• Quickly absorb new technical and domain knowledge and turn it into actionable test strategies and automation coverage for HUB.
• Help the team adapt to shifting priorities while maintaining a strong focus on reliability, performance, and customer value.

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
