A leading aerospace and defense client is seeking a Sr. Lead Systems Engineer VI to lead their Space Systems Engineering team in Englewood, CO. This individual will oversee the design, integration, and verification of advanced space systems along with their associated ground and launch systems. Day-to-day, this person will lead and mentor a team of systems engineers, managing tasking, planning, and execution while driving development of key systems engineering deliverables including system architecture, requirements, CONOPS, and trade studies. They will act as an IPT Lead, owning technical, cost, and schedule performance while also stepping in hands-on to resolve complex technical challenges as needed. Responsibilities include managing Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) activities, serving as a Control Account Manager (CAM), ensuring all deliverables align with SOW, CDRLs, and program milestones, and leading stakeholder engagement across customers, subcontractors, and mission partners. This individual will support design and readiness reviews, apply both traditional and MBSE approaches, and drive continuous improvement across systems engineering processes, tools, and practices. This is a highly visible leadership role requiring deep technical expertise, strong program ownership, and the ability to lead teams in delivering mission-critical space and defense systems. Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Engineering or related technical field
10–12+ years of progressive systems engineering experience (space/aerospace preferred)
Experience leading systems engineering teams and/or large IPTs
Strong experience owning technical, cost, and schedule performance on programs
Deep experience across full system lifecycle (requirements → design → integration → verification)
Expertise developing systems engineering artifacts: CONOPS, System architecture, Requirements & ICDs, Trade studies & mission/system analysis
Experience managing Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) and engineering planning
Experience serving as Control Account Manager (CAM) or owning budgets/scope
Strong stakeholder engagement with: Customers, Government stakeholders, Cross-functional engineering teams
Active Top Secret clearance
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
TS/SCI clearance
Strong background in space systems, satellites, or ground systems
Experience leading larger or more complex programs / multi-IPT environments
Hands-on experience with MBSE tools (Cameo, MagicDraw, DOORS)
Familiarity with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence)
Experience supporting design & readiness reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.)
Experience supporting new business, R&D, or capture efforts
Proven track record of process improvement within engineering organizations
