Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Technical Writer who can translate complex engineering systems into clear, usable documentation for developers.
This role focuses on documenting APIs, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps workflows. You will partner closely with engineering teams to create guides, code examples, and structured content that helps developers build, deploy, and troubleshoot systems effectively.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in highly technical environments and can operate independently with limited direction.

What You’ll Do
Write and maintain high-quality developer documentation, including API guides, integration documentation, and system overviews
Partner with engineering teams to understand backend systems, infrastructure, and workflows
Create clear how-to guides for installation, configuration, and troubleshooting using tools like Bash or PowerShell
Develop and validate code samples, scripts, and technical examples to support documentation
Test workflows, configurations, and documentation steps to ensure accuracy and usability
Organize and structure content using strong information architecture principles to improve discoverability
Maintain and publish content using tools such as Confluence and GitHub
Follow established templates and documentation standards to ensure consistency
Proactively manage SME relationships and gather information efficiently despite limited availability

Required Skills & Experience

Experience writing technical documentation for APIs or developer platforms
Strong understanding of software engineering concepts and backend systems
Exposure to cloud infrastructure or DevOps environments
Ability to create or interpret scripts and technical examples using Bash, PowerShell, or similar tools
Experience working in documentation platforms such as Confluence or GitHub
Strong information architecture and organizational skills
Ability to work directly with engineers and extract technical details independently

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience documenting cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP
Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
Knowledge of PostgreSQL or similar databases
Experience with CCMS tools or DITA-based authoring
Background in DevOps, platform engineering, or software development
Experience creating diagrams or architecture visuals using tools like Lucidchart or Visio
