Job Description

The Accounting Manager / Controller (Hands On) owns day to day accounting operations, monthly close, job costing/WIP, and compliance for the business unit. The role maintains the system of accounts and books and records for all transactions and assets; protects company assets through internal controls, audit readiness, and appropriate insurance coverage; and supports budgeting/forecasting using established templates.
You will report directly to the Business Unit President and partner with the Regional Controller and Director of Finance for standards, cadence, and integration. This is a doer leader role: you’ll both execute and guide a small local team (typical structure includes payroll and AP/AR).

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of accounting experience (public and/or industry); construction/project accounting strongly preferred.
• Hands on competence with debits/credits, GL, reconciliations, payroll from scratch, AP/AR, billing, and close.
• Demonstrated job costing and Percentage of Completion/Work in Progress experience in a project based environment.
• Experience supporting a direct W 2 workforce (non union); understanding of hours/labor drivers.
• Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivots, modeling) and analytical ability.
• Clear verbal, written, and interpersonal communication; comfortable with field leaders and executives.
• Calm under pressure, strong problem solving, and proactive ownership mindset.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• CPA
• Experience in commercial roofing or adjacent construction/services.
• Exposure to Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Business Central, SharePoint, CRM.
• Knowledge of business/management principles and building scalable back office processes.
